We think they are great as snorkel floats to keep your mask and snorkel afloat on the surface.  However, there are other uses too – and more uses are being discovered every day.  Remember – this is a BRAND new product!  There’s nothing like it on the market, and I’m sure that as time goes by, dozens of new uses will be discovered by Snorkelbuoy® users!

 CAMERA FLOAT

I also use it to keep my small underwater camera afloat (when I’m on the surface) – it was also great with my heavy underwater Ikelite case or my small Fujifilm XP80.  Snorkelbuoy® makes them visible on the surface.  Without Snorkelbuoy®, if my camera drifts away from me, even just a few yards, it’s very hard to see, even with a floating strap, but when I put my Snorkelbuoy® on the strap – it makes it VERY easily visible from quite far away.

BUOYANCY FOAM FOR UNDERWATER CAMERAS AND PHOTOGRAPHY

If you have a large, heavy underwater camera, you may need to purchase some not inexpensive buoyancy foam to give it positive buoyancy when you’re down under water.  A dive shop owner told me they tested it on one of their large underwater cameras, it fit perfectly on the arms of the camera, and they thought it was a great use!

 REEF MARKER BUOY

A good friend of mine, a Master Scuba Diver (fewer than two percent of divers ever achieve this rating, by the way), took the SNORKELBUOY® on a few test dives, down to 30 meters (100 feet) in the Caribbean, and this is what he had to say:

“The photos with SNORKELBUOY® on the woman diver’s snorkel are at about 18 meters (59 feet)…. I’ve taken SNORKELBUOY® to just below 30m (100 feet) and there were no problems at all…..”

“The photos with the diver holding it, or it sitting on the reef…. we were doing a dive where it was helpful to mark the entry/exit point on to the drop. SNORKELBUOY® was perfect! We put about 2 feet of line on it, looping it through the opening – and then added a weight on the line. Presto: an instant underwater marker buoy. Another use for the Fabulous SNORKELBUOY®!”  In a later email, he added: “Gotta say, I loved the marker buoy use. It REALLY solved a tricky problem of trying to identify the point on the reef to turn back to the shore. SNORKELBUOY® is so easy to transport for that and with a bit of line and a weight – bingo! We used it a few times.

FOAM SUPPORT

My husband was desperately looking for some foam to stop the vibrations in the sailboat engine, not really sure of the details but he took two of these, cut them in half, shaped them a bit, and installed them.  He'd searched for something similar at West Marine, Boat Owners Warehouse, MacDonalds Warehouse, and couldn't find anything.  So now of course, the question will be, once the engine has been running for several hours, will the foam break down?  They weren't designed for that kind of heat, so I will get back to you once we know for sure.
